Motivation-Based Interviewing Certified Trainer Program

2026 Pre-Release Period: Because the self-paced online portion of the training is pending publication at this time, your access, along with shipment of your Facilitator Guide will take place between now and April 26th, 2026 (15 days prior to the first scheduled class.)

We will notify you and provide instructions on the day of publication.

To participate in the MBI Certified Trainer Program, you must complete an instructor-led MBI training class to see how a live class is taught AND pass the Certified Interviewer Exam within 6-months prior to starting the Train-The-Trainer Program. The online course or reading the MBI book, etc. will not meet the prerequisite.

We recommend that you enroll AT LEAST three weeks prior to the start of the live classes over Zoom to allow enough time to complete your self-paced online eLessons.  If you do not complete the online self-paced portion of the program prior to the first class, you will NOT be allowed to attend as that would likely impede the progress of other participants. You must wait for the next quarterly program.

To ensure the integrity of the Certified Trainer Program, we do not allow purchase of workbooks or access to the slide deck until an individual has successfully completed all training and passed the Certified Trainer exam. No exceptions.

The Starter Kit includes the slide deck you will need to teach MBI.

We want you to be successful. We will do everything we can to help you become a Certified Trainer. In the event you are unable to pass the exam after two attempts, you will be given the option to purchase a one-on-one virtual coaching session within 30 days of the final class. We will include another Exam code with that purchase.

In the event that you decide not to obtain your certification, or you are still unable to pass the exam after coaching, you agree to return your Facilitator Guide to us promptly. No refunds will be given.

NO! The Certified Trainer Program requires that every person you train receives an official Hire Authority MBI Workbook. Participants will not be able to obtain a certificate of completion, badge or CI exam code without it.

It is a violation of our licensing agreement to use your Facilitator Guide or other official training resources to conduct MBI Workshops without providing an original workbook to every participant. Doing so will void your Trainer certificate/badge and you will be required to return your Facilitator Guide to us promptly. Please respect these guidelines.

Certified Trainer certification is perpetual, provided that you complete any required incremental training requirements to stay current on the most recent revision of the material. Such revisions are typically about four years apart. 

All enrollments are final and non-refundable. Once your seat is reserved, it is held exclusively for you and cannot be resold.

If you need to change your scheduled date, you may reschedule to any available class at no charge with 30 or more days notice. Rescheduling requests made less than 30 days before your class will incur a rescheduling fee.
